10/12/16 - SCGSAH to host open house event on November 5

The South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities (SCGSAH) is opening its doors to prospective students and their families on Saturday, November 5 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

"Our OPEN DOORS: FIRST LOOK event is a great way to discover all the opportunities available to South Carolina's young artists at the Governor's School," said Dr. Cedric Adderley, SCGSAH president. "Our guests will take campus tours, learn more about each art discipline through informational sessions and demonstrations, and get a glimpse of the Govie experience."

Following these informational sessions visitors can attend workshops and performances, each providing further details about individual departments.

Attendees interested in creative writing will have the chance to see what actually goes on in a writing workshop and hear from SCGSAH Creative Writing seniors as they read from their original works.

The Drama Department will offer a window into the pre-professional program and its process for training actors through demonstrations of work from current classes.

For students interested in dance, there will be an open rehearsal for ballet and modern dance. Participants will witness the dance faculty at work with some of the current high school students preparing for the upcoming fall performance.

Selected Governor's School music students will perform a recital, followed by breakout sessions with music faculty for an opportunity to ask questions about specific instruments and the audition process.

During OPEN DOORS: FIRST LOOK, the Visual Arts studios will be open while classes are in session and visitors will be able to move between art classes, observing a normal studio day for current students during their instructional time.

This event is free and open to all middle and high school students and families who are considering SCGSAH programs. Interested individuals can view the full schedule and register to attend online at www.SCGSAH.org/open-doors.php.
