9.27.16 - SCGSAH 2016 Share the Music Tour Coming To Lander University

The 2016 Share the Music Tour, featuring the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities (SCGSAH) Music Department's wind and piano ensembles, will be performing a free public concert at Lander University's Abney Cultural Center Auditorium on Tuesday, October 11, at 7:30 p.m.

The Wind Ensemble will perform literature for winds, brass and percussion. Works will include L'inglesina by Delle Cese, La Boutique Fantasque by Rossini, Elegy for a Young American, by Lo Presti, and Concertino for Clarinet by Carl Maria von Weber, featuring Kyra Zhang, SCGSAH clarinet faculty member. The Piano Ensembles represent the piano studio at SCGSAH and will present several compositions from the standard repertoire for piano, four-hands.

The annual Share the Music Tour, sponsored by the KEMET Corporation and the Governor's School for the Arts Foundation, is one of the Governor's School's outreach initiatives bringing performances to schools and communities throughout the state. This year, touring students will spend the day leading up to the event at Lander performing for students at Wright Middle School and Diamond Hill Elementary in Abbeville County, and Ware Shoals Middle School in Greenwood County.

The S.C. Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities is a public, residential high school in Greenville, serving gifted and talented students from across South Carolina. The Music Department offers pre-professional training by experienced and dedicated faculty of artist-teachers in a community planned for artistic development. After graduation, music students have been successful at universities and conservatories across the country.
