4/10/17 - GSA Foundation Hosts 3rd Annual Artists in Bloom

The 3rd annual Artists in Bloom, presented by the Governor's School for the Arts Foundation and TD Bank, will be held at ZEN in downtown Greenville on Thursday, April 20 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

"Artists in Bloom offers guests the opportunity to experience dynamic performances from some of our state's most talented young artists, while enjoying a social evening, with food and beverages, in ZEN's beautiful event space," said Tim McClain, executive director of the GSA Foundation.

Celebrating the talents and successes of students from the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities, the evening will feature music, dance and drama student performances, as well as exhibits of work by the school's creative writing and visual arts students.

This year's event will also honor alumnus Barry Brannum, who will receive the President's Alumni Award, sponsored by The Greenville News, bestowed upon an accomplished graduate who has shown a commitment to the arts and artistic achievement. Brannum is a dancer and choreographer who attended Richland Northeast High School in Columbia prior to the Governor's School. He earned an honors degree in English and a certificate in Dance from Princeton University and is currently a PhD candidate in UCLA's World Arts and Cultures/Dance Department.

The S.C. Governor's School for the Arts is a public, residential high school in Greenville that offers pre-professional training to high school juniors and seniors in the areas of creative writing, dance, drama, music and visual art, while providing a nationally recognized academic education. Any tenth grade student, who is a resident of South Carolina can apply to attend, and tuition is free for students who are accepted.

"The GSA Foundation and the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities are thrilled to bring you Artists in Bloom," said McClain. "We are so thankful that our sponsors have once again expressed their belief in the arts and the young artists of South Carolina by supporting this signature event." Artists in Bloom is presented by TD Bank and sponsored by The Greenville NewsBlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina, Greenville Health System and TOWN.

Proceeds from Artists in Bloom will benefit the Governor's School for the Arts Foundation, which provides scholarships for students, brings world-renowned guest artists to the Upstate, and funds arts-related outreach programs to schools across the state, while bridging the gap between funds provided by government appropriation and the actual cost of educational opportunities provided to students.
