Do you find yourself constantly scribbling ideas for poems and stories into your notebook? Would you rather read than watch reality television? Do you love the feel of a book in your hands? All of the above? Well, face it. You're probably a writer. And as a writer, our Creative Writing Discovery and Academy summer programs give you the attention and guidance you deserve. Led by practicing, published writers, you'll spend an intensive two weeks creating fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction—all in a constructive, supportive atmosphere. You'll write every day. You'll read every day. And you'll learn more about writing than you ever have. Best of all, you'll gain a new appreciation for what it is to not only write, but write well.
Discovery - June 18 - July 1, 2017
During the two-week session, emerging writers are encouraged to discover their talents in poetry and fiction through daily workshop
sessions, during which they share original compositions for critique. Under
the tutelage of published, practicing writers, students compose poems
and stories, then submit them for peer review in a relaxed, positive
workshop setting. In addition, the Discovery writers expand
their knowledge of contemporary authors and expand their critical
vocabulary through a variety of reading materials. At the end of the Discovery session, students present their works at a pair of public readings. Students must be legal resident of South Carolina to apply. Tuition is $950 which includes a $50 non-refundable deposit. View the Application and Portfolio Requirements.
