U.S. News and World Report ranks SCGSAH in the top 100 Best High Schools in the nation. The school for South Carolinaís emerging artists is ranked 87 in the nation and second in the state. SCGSAH also received a gold medal for student performance on state assessments and how well the school prepares students for college.
Six SCGSAH juniors were recognized for their submissions at the regional Kenneth E. Behring National History Day (NHD) competition on April 25 in Lake City, SC. Three students received invitations to represent South Carolina at the Nationals during the State NHD competition at the University of Maryland at College Park in June.
Choral, Conducting and Music Theory teacher Dr. David Rhyne has been selected to receive a $5,500 Fellowship from the National Artist Teacher Fellowship program to attend the 2015 Leipzig Bachfest in Leipzig Germany. SCGSAH has been awarded a complementary grant of $1,500 to support his post-fellowship activities in the school.
The Governorís School Music Department will present a Choral Concert, Thursday, Apr. 30 at 7:30 p.m. The free concert will be held in the sanctuary of Daniel Chapel at Furman University in Greenville.
The Governorís School for the Arts Foundation will host a new signature spring event, Artists in Bloom, on Wednesday, April 22 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. in downtown Greenville. Event proceeds directly benefit students at the South Carolina Governorís School for the Arts and Humanities. The event, celebrating the talents and successes of students from SCGSAH will feature music, dance and drama student performances, as well as exhibits of work by the schoolís creative writing and visual arts students. Two acclaimed Governorís School alumnae, Actress Nicole Beharie and Violinist Maggie Gould are attending Artists in Bloom to accept the Presidentís Young Alumni Award, presented by Governorís School president Dr. Bruce Halverson.
