Summer Music Programs

If you seek proficiency on your instrument and confidence in your performance skills, the Discovery and Academy Programs offer a rare opportunity for specialized and intensive classical and pre-professional training. Our curriculum includes private lessons, music theory, music history, technique and literature seminars, and master classes. Performance opportunities and guest artist visits enrich your experience and leave you well prepared for further study. Our program will be invaluable if you choose to follow your passion in music in the Academy Program, in the Residential High School, or later in a college or conservatory program. Summer Music Programs

Discovery - June 17 - 30, 2018

The Discovery curriculum in Music consists of study and performance on an individual instrument (or voice) and classes in Music Theory and Musicianship/Music Fundamentals. Daytime classes include two hours of private instruction on your instrument, rehearsals and a performance in a chamber ensemble, and attendance in a performance seminar in your area of study. The evenings include Arts Faculty performances during the first week and Student Recitals in the second. Concluding the program is a ceremony where participants will receive a Discovery certificate for Music.

Academy - July 8 - 21, 2017

The Summer Academy Music Program is an intensive two-week training program for rising tenth grade students interested in improving their skills and knowledge in preparation for advanced study in the field of music. The comprehensive curriculum includes private lessons on individual instruments, master classes, and chamber music, as well as classes in music theory, music history, and conducting. The Summer Academy Music Program faculty brings to the school a vast range of experience in performance, teaching and scholarship. These dedicated artists and teachers are committed to the pursuit of their own work while imparting to the students their knowledge, technique, pro­fessionalism and experience.

Begun in 1990, the Summer Academy Program is well-seasoned in the summer education of artistically gifted students of South Carolina. Academy alumni have distinguished themselves through their successes in colleges, universities and conservatories, as well as in arts careers.
