2010 Violin Workshop to be held on January 30

State's players and teachers can attend to improve technical, musical skills

GREENVILLE, SC - Student violin players and teachers will have an opportunity to learn and practice technical and musical skills under the guidance of master clinicians during the 2010 SC-American String Teachers Association Violin Workshop.

The Workshop will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Wade Hampton High School, 100 Pine Knoll Drive in Greenville. Registration and a $20 workshop fee is required by the postmark deadline of January 15, 2010. Teachers and SC-ASTA members attend free. This workshop is designed to accommodate beginning, intermediate and advanced violinists with classes offered at each level.

The South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities and Bernhardt House of Violins in Greenville are co-sponsors of the event. For more information, contact Katie Dey at 864.282.3764 or kdey@scgsah.state.sc.us.

The workshop will feature five clinicians:

  • Guest Conductor: Rebecca Henry, Peabody Institute, Baltimore, MD
  • Guest Performer/Master Class Teacher: Bernard Zinck, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the Merit School of Music in Chicago
  • Guest Teacher/Technique Classes: Thomas Joiner, Furman University, Greenville
  • Beginning Strings Clinic: Angela Rex, Greenville County School District
  • Beginning Strings Clinic: Catherine Crowe, Greenville County School District

Participants should improve and expand their fundamental playing skills in master classes and ensemble rehearsals. The recital at the end of the day will give everyone a chance to perform on stage.
