Governor's School musicians do well in All State Band auditions

Ten (10) Wind and Brass students of the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities were selected for the All State Band at the January 22-23, 2011 auditions, while two (2) others qualified as Alternates. Three among the ten were chosen as First Chair in their section and two students were chosen in separate auditions for the All State Jazz Band. Students will also participate in Region Bands across the state.These auditions are sponsored by the SC Band Director's Association and provide an opportunity for high school students from across the state to compete for placement in All State and Region Band clinics. The All State Band clinic will be held at Furman University March 11-13, the All State Jazz clinic will be held at Newberry College March 3-5, and Regions Band clinics will take place February 25-26 at five locations.
The South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities is a public residential high school located in Greenville, South Carolina, providing a unique arts and academic education to the state's emerging artists. Young artists, usually in 11th or 12th grade, study creative writing, dance, drama, music, or visual arts during the academic year and rising 9th and 10th grade students attend summer programs in these areas, with summer dance programs open to rising 7th through 12th grade students.
