Concert violinist Chee-Yun to visit Governor's School

World-renowned performer will lead master class for strings students

GREENVILLE, SC - The Music department of the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities will welcome concert violinist Chee-Yun on Friday, September 25, 2009.

Chee-Yun, a world-renowned recitalist and educator, will hold a 2 pm master class for strings students in Smith Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public, though seating is limited. Contact Katie Dey in the Music Department at 864.282.3758 for more information.

Hailed for her flawless technique, dazzling tone and compelling artistry, Chee-Yun regularly performs with the world's foremost orchestras, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, the London Philharmonic and the Toronto, Houston, Seattle, Pittsburgh and National Symphony orchestras. She toured the United States with the San Francisco Symphony and Japan with the NHK Symphony.

Chee-Yun has been heard frequently on National Public Radio's "Performance Today." She has been featured on the cable network CNBC, Garrison Keillor's "A Prairie Home Companion," on Public Radio International and numerous syndicated and local radio programs.

Chee-Yun is also a dedicated and enthusiastic educator. She holds master classes around the world and has taught at Indiana University's School of Music. In August 2007, she was appointed Artist-in-Residence and Professor of Violin at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
