Fourth Annual Violin and Viola Workshop

January 3, 2012
Greenville, SOUTH CAROLINA - January 2, 2012- The South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities (SCGSAH) and the South Carolina American String Teachers Association (ASTA) have joined to present the Fourth Annual Violin and Viola Workshop on Saturday, January 21, 2012 on the SCGSAH campus in Greenville, SC.

The workshop is designed to offer players and teachers the opportunity to learn and practice under the guidance of master clinicians. Clinicians include, among others, the College of Charleston's Director of Strings and Violin Professor Lee-Chin Siow, Greenville Suzuki teacher and member of the Greenville Symphony Orchestra Kathryn McLean, Furman University's Professor of Viola and Music Education Anna Joiner, and SCGSAH Viola Instructor and Eastman Viola Workshop Kathryn Dey.

The workshop accommodates all levels of players, from beginner to advanced. Participants will improve and expand their fundamental playing skills in master classes and ensemble rehearsals.

The workshop will conclude with a recital, giving everyone a chance to perform on stage. In addition, four students will be selected to perform for the master class. To be considered for this opportunity, advanced violin and viola students should submit a letter of recommendation from their private teacher with their application.

"I am very excited about the 2012 ASTA Violin and Viola Choir/Workshop hosted by the SC Governor's School," says Kathy Robinson, Past President of SC ASTA. "It is a wonderful opportunity for string students of all levels in South Carolina to meet and make music for a day. The culminating concert gives students an opportunity to practice their performance skills in a supportive arena."

Participants are asked to send in the registration form postmarked by January 7. Visit http://www.scasta.org/ for the registration form. For questions, please contact Katie Dey at 864.282.3764 or email at kdey@scgsah.state.sc.us.
