Cincinnati Conservatory associate professor of Oboe to visit Governor's School
GREENVILLE - The Music department of the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities will welcome guest artist Dr. Mark Ostoich on Tuesday, September 22, 2009, from 1:30 pm until 4 pm.
Dr. Ostoich is the associate professor of oboe at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM). He will instruct oboe students Leland Greene of West Columbia, formerly of Brookland-Cayce High School, and Megan Broadwater of Johns Island, formerly of the Charleston County School of the Arts. He will also lead a student masterclass for all woodwind instrumentalists.
The masterclass is open to the public, with limited seating. Interested persons should contact the Music department at 864.282.3758 for more information.
Dr. Ostoich joined the CCM faculty in 1996 and performs extensively in solo, orchestral and chamber music settings. In connection with CCM, Ostoich has served on the staff of the Lucca Festival and Opera Theatre of Lucca (Italy) and CCM's Grandin Festival. He has performed with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Pittsburgh Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, Santa Fe Opera, Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, Cincinnati Ballet, Columbus ProMusica and the Dayton Philharmonic.
During his tenure at CCM, Dr. Ostoich also served as Visiting Professor of Oboe at Ohio University and as Senior Lecturer of Oboe at the University of Texas at Austin. He has been a finalist for positions in the Cincinnati, New York, and Chicago Symphonies.
"We are so fortunate to have Mark Ostoich returning to the Governor's School to work with our woodwind students," said Dr. Kyra Zhang, who instructs clarinet, chamber music and music history at the Governor's School. "He is a musician of the highest caliber, and the experience he brings to our students is invaluable."
The Governor's School offers pre-professional training from a faculty of practicing artists. In addition to Music, arts concentrations include Creative Writing, Dance, Drama and Visual Arts. Guest artist visits are part of the curriculum and allow students to interact with other professionals in their field.
