Governor's School represents the largest delegation in Model UN tournament

March 1, 2011

GREENVILLE, SC - South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities (SCGSAH) students represent the largest participating delegation in this year's Greenville Technical College Model United Nations (MUN) tournament held on Saturday, February 26.

The students served as delegates from countries around the world in simulations of the United Nations (UN) Security Council and the UN Economic and Social Council.  Receiving a taste of the real work that goes on in the UN, students drafted three resolutions and got these passed in their respective council concerning the issues of the Mideast peace process and humanitarian missions.

"Model UN is very helpful to students as they learn the complexities of world issues and the necessity to form global partnerships in order to find solutions," says Rusty Godfrey, Chair, Social Studies and World Languages Department with the SC Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities. "Students find out that it takes much behind-the-scenes preparation and negotiation to accomplish anything worthwhile."

This is the 4th year that the Greenville Tech MUN has been held, and SCGSAH students have participated all 4 years.

The Governor's School team was sponsored by Mr. Rusty Godfrey and Mrs. Jamie Gestwicki of the school's International Relations Club.
