The nine-month public residential high school gives the artistically talented high school students from all over the state the opportunity to develop their abilities in a supportive environment of artistic and academic excellence. Students apply and audition to concentrate in one of five art areas: creative writing, dance, drama, music or visual arts. The residential high school experience is unique because of the school's mission to serve the artistically gifted high school students of South Carolina through programs of pre-professional instruction in an environment of artistic and academic excellence.
The Discovery program is a two-week program for rising 9th graders interested in concentrating on creative writing, drama, music or visual arts. While they work intensely in their art area, students are also exposed to the other art areas with opportunities to attend performances and guest lectures.
The Academy is a two week program for rising 10th graders who desire intensive training in creative writing, drama, music or visual arts. The non-traditional curriculum incorporates studio work, self-directed studies, performance, field trips, lectures and presentations by faculty and guest artists.
The Summer Dance program is an intensive five-week program for rising 7th to 12th grade dancers. The classical ballet program is based on the Vaganova technique and taught by world-renowned instructors. Through complex exercise training in both classical ballet and modern dance, students are taught a conscious approach to every movement.
