SC Governor's School music student wins Tennessee Cello Workshop Competition
SOUTH CAROLINA - April 11, 2011 - Christophe Beaumier, a senior music student from the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities (SCGSAH), won first prize in the high school division of the Tennessee Cello Workshop (TCW) 2011 Competition.
Beaumier also won the two special prizes: a cello bow made by master bow maker Joshua Henry, and a $1000 Scholarship to the Wintergreen Academy in summer 2011. Part of Christophe's prize was to perform at the final concert with the TCW Cello Orchestra conducted by Dan Allcott.
"It was especially satisfying to have Christophe back at the TCW, entering the cello competition for the second time. Jury members who had heard him last year unanimously noted and praised Mr. Beaumier's extraordinary progress in the last year. Kudos to both Christophe and his SCGSAH cello teacher, Robert O'Brien!" says Dr. Wesley Baldwin, Professor of Cello, University of Tennessee.
Before coming to SCGSAH, Beaumier attended Hartsville High School in Darlington County.
