Othello is one of William Shakespeare's greatest tragedies. The play's themes include jealousy, racism and prejudice, class and gender conflicts, and the roles culture and political power play in shaping human destiny. This is the story of Othello, a highly esteemed black, Muslim-born General in the Venetian army, who promotes Michael Cassio to the position of personal lieutenant. Othello's ambitious friend, Iago, becomes deadly jealous and begins a malicious campaign against the General and his new bride, Desdemona.
