SC Governor's School music students perform at Carnegie Hall
SOUTH CAROLINA - March 31, 2011 - South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities (SC Governor's School) music students perform in the American High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall in New York, New York. The performance was held February 19.
In the Honors Orchestra, Kedrick Armstrong played clarinet with Charles Peltz conducting. Armstrong is a native of Georgetown, SC and previously attended Georgetown High School.
"Carnegie Hall, as a high school student, is probably one of the most life-changing memories ever," says Armstrong, music student. "I will never forget the feeling I felt as I walked on stage, the same stage that Mahler, Tchaikovsky, Dudamel, Stravinsky, Bernstein and so many more great artists that came before me. It was truly breath taking!"
In the Honors Band, Brandon Brooks played percussion with Jeffrey Grogan conducting. Brooks is a native of Taylors in Greenville County, SC and previously attended Blue Ridge High School.
"I never would have thought at age 17 I would be performing in Carnegie Hall. When I stepped foot on the stage, I was in awe," says Brooks, music student. "I looked down on the floor thinking about all of the great artists who have performed where I was standing, and I was speechless."
Carnegie Hall is one of the most prestigious venues for classical and popular music. Located in Midtown Manhattan in New York, Carnegie Hall boasts exceptional music education programs, as well as, internationally renowned performances.
