Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors at Governor's School

April 22, 2009

Drama students perform classic play on April 23-26 in Sakas Theatre

GREENVILLE, SC - What does an execution, a jealous wife, sorcerers, a bashful sister-in-law, courtesans, a loan shark, and high school students have in common? Shakespeare at the Governor's School, of course!

The Drama department at the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities will present Shakespeare's "The Comedy of Errors" April 23-26, in Sakas Theatre. Performances begin 7:30 pm, April 23-25, and 2 pm April 26. All performances are free and open to the public, but interested persons should call 864.282.3737 to reserve seating.

The Comedy of Errors is one of Shakespeare's early comedies and one of the only farces he wrote. The play is set in the port city of Ephesus in a single, error-filled day involving a set of parents, two sets of twins and a race against the clock to prevent a 5 o'clock execution.

The Governor's School production is directed by Drama faculty member Jayce Tromsness. Professional guest artists provide set design, light design, sound design and choreography. Tromsness designed costumes, and the entire production is under the technical direction of Matthew Leckenbusch.
