Sharon Kazee named Administrator of the Year

Governor's School Dean awarded by SC Association of School Librarians

GREENVILLE, SC - Sharon Kazee, Dean and Vice President for Arts and Academics at the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities has been named the 2010 Administrator of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Librarians (SCASL). 

Kazee was honored during the 2010 SCASL Conference at the North Charleston Convention Center, March 24-26. The SCASL advocates professional excellence, facilitates collaboration and develops leadership to ensure that school library media programs are integral to teaching and learning in every South Carolina school.

Kazee's colleagues offered their congratulations.

"This important award recognizes Vice President Kazee for her impressive commitment to enhancing opportunities for our students," said Dr. Bruce Halverson, Governor's School President. "She is an exceptional educator who provides outstanding leadership in developing and integrating all of the resources great teaching requires." 

"Dean Kazee is a pleasure to work with and an inspiration for our school," said Norman Belk, Director of Library Services at the Governor's School. "Her attention to the details and the seminal role of Library Services is the attribute of an excellent administrator."

An educator for more than 30 years, Kazee taught instrumental and vocal music and served as an administrator at the school and district levels. Kazee was the Fine Arts Coordinator with Greenville County Schools and the Curriculum Specialist for Performing Arts with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in Charlotte.  

She is the recipient of several awards, including the Ben Craig First Union Teacher of the Year Award for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District, the South Carolina Art Education Association's Distinguished Art Advocate and the South Carolina Alliance for Arts Education's Leadership Award. Recently, Kazee was named one of Greenville Talk magazine's 25 Most Beautiful Women. 

Kazee serves on several local, state and national boards of directors, including Arts Schools Network, South Carolina Arts Alliance, South Carolina Alliance for Arts Education, Arts in Basic Curriculum Steering Committee, Greater Greenville Chamber Board of Governors and Greenville Arts in Public Places Commission.
