Sinfonia and Wind Ensemble in concert at Peace Center on May 4

Concert will feature guest conductor Miles Hoffman of Converse College

GREENVILLE, SC - Violins, oboes, percussion, oh my! The Sinfonia Chamber Orchestra and the Wind Ensemble of the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities will hold a joint spring concert at the Peace Center's Gunter Theatre, 7:30 pm on Tuesday, May 4.

The public is invited. Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for students and seniors. Contact the Peace Center Box Office at 864.467.4000 to purchase tickets.

Sinfonia, which features stringed instruments, will include guest conductor Miles Hoffman performing the music from A Midsummer Night's Dream by Felix Mendelssohn. Hoffman is Dean of the Petrie School of Music at Converse College in Spartanburg.

The Wind Ensemble will perform the Norwegian march Valdres by Johannes Hanssen and Hammersmith: Prelude and Scherzo by Gustav Holst under the direction of Dr. David Hamilton, who leads the music department at the Governor's School.

Miles Hoffman, a violinist, tours the United States and Canada with the American Chamber Players, where he serves as artistic director. He has recorded works of Mozart, Bruch, Bloch, Stravinsky and Rochberg for a series of compact discs produced by the Library of Congress and distributed internationally on the Koch International Classics Label. Hoffman has appeared as a soloist with orchestras throughout the country and has been a featured lecturer for orchestras, universities, chamber music series and festivals.
