South Carolina Writers' Workshop Contest awards SC Governor's School writing students

SOUTH CAROLINA - April 27, 2011 - The South Carolina Writers' Workshop (SCWW) High School Writing Contest recognizes South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities (SCGSAH) writing students. The annual state-wide competition awards a $100 first prize, a $25 second prize, and names three honorable mentions to high school juniors and seniors.

The SCGSAH creative writing faculty includes Scott Gould, faculty chair and non-fiction teacher; Mamie Morgan, poetry; and George Singleton, fiction.

About SCWW:

Established in 1990, the South Carolina Writers Workshop is a literary arts organization serving both new and established writers. Nearly every type of writing is represented from poetry to mainstream novels to short stories to non-fiction. SCWW offers a supportive environment for people to become better writers.

 The South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities is a public residential high school located in Greenville, South Carolina, providing a unique arts and academic education to the state's emerging artists. Young artists, usually in 11th or 12th grade, study creative writing, dance, drama, music, or visual arts during the academic year and rising 9th and 10th grade students attend summer programs in these areas, with summer dance programs open to rising 7th through 12th grade students.
