Visual Arts Faculty Exhibition at Winthrop University

Governor's School artists to showcase works September 21 - October 22

GREENVILLE, SC - Visual Arts faculty of the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities will exhibit works at Winthrop University's Rutledge Gallery, September 21 through October 22, 2009.

Rutledge Gallery is located in the Rutledge Building on Winthrop University's campus in Rock Hill. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

"The South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities Faculty Exhibition" will include works from Alice Ballard (ceramics), Sharon Campbell (ceramics), Katya Cohen (printmaking), John Benjamin Gilliam (metals), Neil Summerour (graphic design), Joe Thompson (sculpture), Carlyn Tucker (photography), and Paul Yanko (painting). All Governor's School arts faculty are practicing artists.

"Winthrop University Galleries is excited to exhibit these talented artistic faculty of the Governor's School," said Karen Derksen, Assistant Director of Winthrop University Galleries.

"Winthrop continues to receive Governor's school graduates furthering their education and believes the partnership of this exhibition communicates both institutions' commitment to excellence in fine arts education in South Carolina," Derksen added.

Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.; the gallery is closed on weekends and school holidays and will be closed October 19-20 for fall break.

The South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities is a public residential high school for emerging artists statewide. The school serves artistically-talented high school students through programs of pre-professional instruction in an environment of artistic and academic excellence. Arts concentrations for both the Residential High School program and Summer Programs include Creative Writing, Dance, Drama, Music and Visual Arts.
