Wind Ensemble in concert at the Peace Center
Wind, brass and percussion students to perform March 31st
GREENVILLE - The Wind Ensemble from the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities will hold its spring concert 7:30pm, Tuesday, March 31 at The Peace Center's Gunter Theatre, 300 South Main Street.
Tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for students and seniors. The event is open to the public.
The program will include Children's March: "Over the Hills and Far Away" by Percy Grainger, Sleep by Eric Whitacre, Variations on a Korean Folk Song by John Barnes Chance, Chester Overture by William Schuman, Black Horse Troop by John Philip Sousa, and Southern Harmony by Donald Grantham. Dr. David Hamilton is the Wind Ensemble conductor.
The Wind Ensemble is c omprised of students from more than 20 counties statewide, who attend the Governor's School for pre-professional arts training. Students study and perform music written for large and small combinations of woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. The Ensemble performs works from the standard repertory, ranging from the 16th century to the present.
Locally, the Ensemble has been in concert at The Peace Center, The Brooks Center for the Performing Arts at Clemson University and the J. Verne Smith Auditorium at Greenville Technical College. In 2002 and 2003, the Ensemble performed for President George W. Bush during his visits to Greenville. In 2001, the Ensemble received the Concert Achievement Award from the South Carolina Band Director's Association.
