Wind Ensemble spring performance on March 30

Wind, brass and percussion students to perform 7:30 pm at The Peace Center
GREENVILLE, SC - The Wind Ensemble of the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities will hold its spring concert 7:30pm, Tuesday, March 30 at The Peace Center's Gunter Theatre, 300 South Main Street.
Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for students and seniors. The event is open to the public.
The program will feature guest soloist, Dr. Gary Malvern on Bruce Broughton's Excursions for Trumpet and Wind Ensemble. The program will also include Serenade for Band by Vincent Persichetti, Variations on "America" by Charles Ives, The William Byrd Suite by Gordon Jacob, Symphonic Songs for Band by Robert Russell Bennett and the concert march L'Inglesina by Davide Delle Cese.
Malvern is Professor of Music at Furman University and he teaches trumpet and chamber music at the Governor's School. He has been Principal and Co-Principal Trumpet with the Greenville Symphony Orchestra since 1983 and is active as a performer throughout the region. The Wind Ensemble is comprised of students from nearly 20 counties statewide, who attend the Governor's School for pre-professional arts training. Students study and perform music written for large and small combinations of woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. The Ensemble performs works from the standard repertory, ranging from the 16th century to the present.
Locally, the Ensemble has performed at The Peace Center, The Brooks Center for the Performing Arts at Clemson University and the J. Verne Smith Auditorium at Greenville Technical College. In 2002 and 2003, the Ensemble performed for President George W. Bush during his visits to Greenville.
