I love working on the campus of the Governor's School for the Arts for many reasons, but mainly because of the openness of the students' minds to exploring new ideas and interpretations of history.

Rusty Godfrey

Rusty Godfrey has taught social studies since 1992. A native of Greenville, Mr. Godfrey attended Furman University, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in History in 1991. In 1998, he earned a Masters in Education degree from Clemson University. From 1992 to 2002, Mr. Godfrey taught in the Greenville County Schools at J.L. Mann High School. He has taught Advanced Placement United States History since 1997, and has served repeatedly as an AP reader in the national readings. In 2002, he joined the faculty of the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities. He successfully completed the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) certification process in the fall of 2004. In 2005, Mr. Godfrey was selected to attend the summer seminar of the Jewish Foundation of the Righteous held at Columbia University where he furthered his knowledge of the Holocaust. Mr. Godfrey is the sponsor of the International Relations Club, the Washington DC Trip, and frequent history film events. Mr. Godfrey currently teaches American Studies, A.P. United States History, and a Holocaust Seminar. Among his many hobbies are jazz recordings (especially Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong), model trains, lighthouses, and family history. He and his wife live locally and have two small children.
