January 2012

John Reese (Drama, 2006) is performing as Peter Pan in the No Rules Theatre Company’s performance of Peter Pan: The Boy Who Hated Mothers. Read more about John’s recent work here.

Lucas Sams (Visual Arts, 2007) will be presenting an exhibition, Futurespectives, in Columbia, South Carolina’s First Thursdays on Main February 2.  Read more about Lucas’ exhibition here.

Austin Kelly (Drama, 2003) was recently married to Captain Robert Kusnir, U.S. Army.  Austin is a graduate of Clemson University and is pursuing degrees in law and business administration at the University of Mississippi. Read more here.

Rebecca Steen (Music, 2004) was married to Daniel Richard Benson June 25, 2011.  Rebecca has a bachelor's degree from Presbyterian College and a master's degree from Winthrop University.  She is currently teaching kindergarten at Clinton Elementary School.

December 2011

Grant Bedillion (Music, 2004) received a bachelor's in music for viola performance from the North Carolina School of the Arts and a master's in music for viola performance from Lousiana State University in 2010. He is currently living and performing in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Read more here.

April Hilton (Music, 2005) was honored with the naming of a scholarship in her memory.  The scholarship for music students at Winthrop University gives preference to students from the Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities.  Read more here.

Chad Bagwell (Drama, 2002) continues to develop his own acting and musical theater department at Christina's Centre Stage in Myrtle Beach. Read more here.

Lillian Cotton (Visual Arts, 2004) was recently featured in a show at the Vivant Art Collection along with artist Tatyana Fazlalizade. The show called Four Women was inspired by the Nina Simone song "Four Women." Read Lillian's bio and see some of her artwork here.

Annalise Morelli (Music, Summer) won the American Idol Experience at Walt Disney World's Hollywood Studios theme park which allows her to be at the front of the line at an "American Idol" audition. Read about her story here!

Jessica Catalano (Creative Writing, 2011) recently received a writing portfolio silver medal which includes a $1,000 scholarship. Read more here.

Prentiss Standridge (Drama, 2006) joined Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival this summer before finishing her last year at the University of Minnesota/ Guthrie Theatre B.F.A Actor Training Program.

Cameron Adams (Dance, Summer) is currently performing in the Broadway musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.  Read more here.

Kelley Anderson (Music, 2001) is currently performing with Those Darlins as they tour with the Old 97’s.  Kelley founded the Southern Girls Rock and Roll Camp to support aspiring young female artists.  Kelley’s work with youth was featured in the Memphis online magazine Culture Grits.

Charlie Bethel (Drama, Summer) is performing in the Orlando Shakespeare Theater’s adaptation of Beowulf.

Jonathan Callicut (Visual Arts, Summer) is a painter working in Decatur, Georgia and exhibiting work throughout the South.  Read more here.

Lillian Cotton (Visual Arts, 2004) is a designer for Nova D Arts Collective in Philadelphia.  The Nova D Arts Collective has a mission of tackling “educational and social issues that affect our community and world through arts integration.”  Read more here.

Tonya Gregg (Visual Arts, Summer) is a painter and teacher for aspiring young South Carolinians.  Her work has been featured in a variety of settings.  Read more here.

Andrea Horath (Music, 2005) is pursuing a graduate degree in music education at the College of Charleston.

Jessica McClellan (Drama, 2006) is pursuing a Masters of Fine Arts in Acting at Rutgers University and studying with Deborah Hedwell.

Sara Mearns (Dance), principal dancer for the New York City Ballet, recently returned to her hometown of Columbia to perform at the University of South Carolina’s Koger Center for the Performing Arts.  Read more here.

Zachary Pelicano (Drama, 2005) had his directorial debut with the musical Grey Gardens at the Fountain Inn Repertory Experience.  Zach graduated from the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York. Read more here.

Carly Porter (Visual Arts, 2001) received her Ph.D. in Art History from Virginia Commonwealth University and is currently teaching as a visiting lecturer at Furman University.

Craig Phillip Price (Music, Summer) was recently featured in the blog Operatoonity for his work both as a performer and educator.  Read more here.

Lisa Puryear (Visual Arts, Summer) is a painter and member of the Trenholm Artist Guild in Columbia, SC.  She currently has work showing in the Webb Rawls Gallery in Columbia.  Read more here.


Ami Rabinowitz (Music, 2005) works with the Beaufort Orchestra, the Beaufort Youth Orchestra, and offers individual lessons in Beaufort, SC.

Gregg Sartiano (Music, Summer) writes, produces, and mixes music professionally in Hollywood.

Jon Spigner (Dance, 2009) is dancing with the Hong Kong Ballet, which he joined in 2010.

Joseph Young (Music, Summer) is the assistant conductor of the Phoenix Symphony.  Young recently conducted “The Rhythms of the Earth” featuring music celebrating the planet in honor of Earth Day.  Read more here.

 

February 2011

Liza Bennett (Drama, 2006) recently spoke to current SCGSAH drama students about her time at the Governor’s School, at Julliard, and transition to a professional career.  Liza is currently on hiatus from the Broadway production of The Merchant of Venice. Welcome back, Liza!

DJ Cheek (Music, 2008) was selected to participate in the 2011 YouTube Orchestra.

He will travel to Sydney, Australia next month to perform for a week at the Sydney Opera House under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas.  Read more here.

Alan Fitzpatrick (Music, 2008) will perform the first movement of William Walton’s “Concerto for Viola” with the Appalachian Symphony Orchestra as a winner of Appalachian State University’s Concert/Aria Competition.  Read more here.

Eliza Hesse (Music, 2001) is engaged to be married June 4, 2011 to Daniel Johnson of Sumter, SC!  Eliza currently works with Symphony Orchestra Augusta and Carolina Academy of Music. Read more here.

Sherita Jennings (Visual Arts, 2003) recently debuted her winter fashion line in New York. While attending  the Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia Sherita was awarded the Tiffany & Co. Women's leadership Fellowship, which gave her the opportunity to visit Ghana, West Africa to study native textile techniques. Read more about Sherita’s work here!

Teyonah Parris (Drama, 2005) recently joined fellow Governor’s School alumnae Nicole (Brown) Beharie (Drama, 2003) in the Broadway production of A Free Man of Color. Teyonah was also featured in The State newspaper!  Read more here.

Chris Reardon (Music, 2003), will join the music faculty in May to teach the saxophone studio for two weeks while Dr. Kyra Zhang is on maternity leave. Chris has completed his BA degree from the University of North Texas. Chris is working in the Columbia area and will begin graduate studies in the fall.

Caleb Vaughn-Jones (Music, 2003 ) was recently featured in the recording of the Civilization V game soundtrack. Caleb was the featured soloist in the recording here and on four other tracks! Caleb performed on the project with the FILMharmonic Prague Orchestra with conductor Andy Brick and music composed by Geoff Knorr.
