Celebrated alumnus Caleb Jones to hold residency

2003 graduate returns to Governor's School to work with students, perform
GREENVILLE, SC - Caleb Jones, a 2003 alumnus who is rapidly establishing himself as one of classical music's most versatile young cellists, will return to the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities in October for a master class and recital.
Jones will lead a master class for cello students on Monday, October 5 at 7 pm. He will perform works for cello and piano by Bach, Beethoven, Dorsey and Witner, with Governor's School accompanist Lisa Lee, on Tuesday, October 6 at 7:30 pm. A question and answer session will follow the recital.
Both events will be held in Smith Recital Hall and are free and open to the public, though seating is limited. Contact Katie Dey in the Music department at 864.282.3758 for more information.
Hailed "Outstanding" by the Palm Beach Post, Jones has performed in renowned concert halls, such as Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall, and in jazz clubs with notable jazz musicians, such as Gary Thomas.
In March 2006, he was guest soloist and master class clinician with Maryland's Frederick Youth Symphony Orchestra. He was a featured artist for the "2006 Peabody at Homewood Concert Series" in which he presented an unaccompanied recital that included a composition of his own. Most recently, Mr. Jones won the "2006 Rising Star Award" from the Howard County Arts Council in Maryland.
Jones is a member of the Young Eight, a string octet dedicated to diversifying the classical music audience through innovation and outreach. In addition to performing in concert series nationwide, The Young Eight are Artists-in-Residence at Seattle University's Lee Center for the Arts.
Jones has worked with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and the BE Community Foundation, where he spent two weeks in Anguilla (British West Indies), teaching and performing with young strings students.
He joined the Governor's School in 2001, a native of Charleston, SC. He holds degrees from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University and Lynn University's Conservatory of Music. He has also studied at Interlochen Center for the Arts, Music Academy of the West and the Beijing International Music Festival and Academy.
