Parents & Families
Families are an integral part of the Governor's School community. Students' parents, siblings and extended family are encouraged to visit the school, attend events and enjoy the campus. Govie Parents and the School Improvement Council offer additional ways for parents and families to support the school.Govie Parents offers many opportunities for you to increase your involvement in Governor's School activities and your child's educational experience. Govie Parents serves a threefold purpose:
- to encourage communication between parents;
- to facilitate and/or assist the school with various events; and
- to increase statewide awareness of the Governor's School.
Govie Parents facilitates communication by:
- Govie Parents calendar of events for the school year provided to parents at Move-In Day.
- Meetings during the year. (See the school calendar for dates and times.) For parents not able to make it to Greenville in time for the meeting, we offer the option of phoning in to listen to the meetings.
- Govie Parents news is included in the monthly parent packet posted on the school intranet.
- Special reminders or announcements are included in the school's weekly bulletin email.

Other Ways for Parents to Get Involved
- Help educate parents of potential students about the benefits of the school.
- Public & Media Relations - Help us spread the word in your community by building relationships with arts organizations, media resources and legislators. Additionally, please share your contacts with Emily Allen, Public Information Coordinator.
- Fundraising - The Governor's School for the Arts Foundation welcomes your fundraising efforts.
School Improvement Council - The School Improvement Council (SIC) serves as an advisory committee to the school's administration and faculty. Unlike PTA/Os and other voluntary school organizations, councils are mandated by law to exist in every public school in South Carolina. SICs play a key role in the education of our state's children, bringing together parents, educators and community stakeholders to work collectively to improve their local school. More than 16,000 people serve on SICs in South Carolina. For further information access http://sic.sc.gov/
