Residential High School Admissions

Application

Students interested in the High School program in Drama, Creative Writing, and Visual Arts apply and audition while in the 10th grade to attend in the 11th and 12th grades.  Dance students may apply in their 9th, 10th, or 11th grade years to attend in the 10th, 11th and/or 12th grades. Music students apply in the 10th grade to attend in the 11th and 12th grades, but on occasion, music will accept students entering the 12th grade and especially talented and mature 9th grade students for the 10th grade Early Admissions program.  Total enrollment is limited to 242 students in order to allow for individualized instruction. Applications must be postmarked by Friday, Janurary 6, 2012. Applications postmarked after Friday, Janurary 6, 2012, will be processed on a space available basis.

Admission to the public residential high school is based primarily on artistic potential and ability. The application form outlines audition requirements for each of the arts disciplines. A grade review is also conducted. Students applying should have a 2.5 average or higher.

Applications require artistic and academic teacher recommendations. Academic recommendations should be completed by a teacher who has taught the student in the past term, and artistic recommendations can be submitted by a school arts teacher, community or professional director or educator, church fine arts or music director, or any other professional who has knowledge of the student’s commitment and talent.

All applicants who send in materials by the deadline will be scheduled for an audition appointment. After the initial due date, applications may continue to be accepted on a space-available basis.

Applications are still being accepted for programs and auditions scheduled if additional spaces are available.  For more information, contact the Enrollment Office at admissions@scgsah.state.sc.us or 864.282.2713.

Prospective Students

Visit SCGSAH.

Visiting the campus is one of the best ways to experience the dynamic energy of the school.  Individual visits, or shadowing days, are offered on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each academic week.   Visiting students shadow current students, sit in on classes, meet teachers and eat lunch in the dining hall.  This experience will help prospective students get a sense of what a day in the life of a Governor's School student is really like.

For more information, or to schedule a Shadowing day, please call our Admissions office at 864.282.3724.
