Community Service & Service-Learning
The mission of the Community Service/Service-Learning program is to teach students to use their gifts and talents to reach out to the community in which they live in an effort to demonstrate elemental kindness, concern, and respect for others. All students are expected to participate in community service opportunities, as schedules permit, and in service-learning projects which are integrated into the curriculum.
CATS (Connecting Arts Through Service) Volunteer Club.
Through the Service-Learning program and the CATS Club, students are introduced to and encouraged to participate in service opportunities designed to foster a sense of social responsibility. CATS is open to membership for any student and participation, requirements, and time commitment are flexible to accommodate students' individual schedules. Service opportunities offered allow students to use their skills and knowledge in real-life situations while developing a sense of social awareness and responsibility and leadership skills. Projects that address universal community needs have been offered in the areas of environment, at risk children, the elderly, homelessness/hunger, disaster relief and literacy. Students are encouraged to help identify social needs and plan ways to address those needs. CATS meets monthly on campus and requests a minimal $5.00 dues contribution per year.
