Languages
The World Languages program at the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities provides students with the opportunity to learn to communicate with people who speak languages other than English. The program encourages learners to make connections with other disciplines and to appreciate the intellectual, artistic, and literary contributions of the target cultures. Students learn to develop insights into their own language and culture while preparing themselves to function more fully in the global community. Language goals are based on standard practices found in The South Carolina Foreign Languages Framework, ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines, the various national language exam guidelines, and supplementary materials that accompany the textbooks. Methodology used in language classes is designed to accommodate differences in learning styles and includes oral and written questions/answers, dictation, group and pair work, directed conversations, sequencing, skits, taped activities, interviews, presentations, readings, internet searches, pen pals, and interaction with native speakers whenever possible.
