Summer Visual Arts

As a student of our Visual Arts Discovery or Academy Programs, you'll learn and develop skills vital to the practice of the visual arts. You'll engage in 2-D and 3-D design through hands-on courses such as printmaking and ceramics, and in projects like stone carving, painting, and photography while also strengthening your understanding and use of visual language. Join our community, learn more about the arts with others just like you, and take the chance to learn how to better express your artistic vision.

Discovery - June 17 - 30, 2018

The Discovery Visual Arts Program is for rising 9th-grade students who apply in the 8th grade. This two-week program consists of intensive studio sessions in several visual art areas over the duration of the program. These areas broadly include drawing and two- and three-dimensional design classes with specific studio experiences (sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, etc.) determined by the professional faculty instructors each summer. The curriculum also includes a class engaging students in understanding visual arts principles through discussion and activities including a visit to the Greenville County Museum of Art.  Students must be legal resident of South Carolina to apply. Academy - July 8 - 21, 2018

The Academy Visual Arts Program is for rising 10th graders who apply in the 9th grade. The two-week program consists of intensive courses across several visual arts areas with the goal of a deeper understanding of artistic practice. Classes and activities will provide studio experience and build individual confidence in developing, analyzing, and communication visual ideas. The program consists of intensive studio experiences and includes final critiques prior to the end of program exhibition. The goals of the Academy Program are to give students a broad based creative experience, and also give them the tools to begin to make objective critical analysis of their own work.  Tuition is $950 and includes a $50 non-refundable deposit.
