2023 Midlands ED Dance Audition Information

Midlands Early Decision Dance auditions for registered applicants will be held in Columbia on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at the University of South Carolina Dance Studios.  Be sure to view the Dance Audition Details below, as well as the Midlands Location Information for directions & parking. Audition Schedule

12:00 - 12:30 pm: Registration
12:30 - 2:00 pm: Ballet Class
 2:05 - 3:05 pm: Modern Class
 3:05 - 3:20 pm: Improvisation/Modern Session
 3:25 - 4:15 pm: Solos and Interviews*

*The interview portion of the day may end sooner depending on the final roster for this location.

Dance Audition Details 

Audition Preparation
Dancers will participate in a ballet class, modern class, perform a prepared solo (Residential High School candidates only), and attend an interview (individual for RHS applicants; small groups for summer applicants). Be sure to review the audition requirements for the Residential High School or Summer Program.

Dance Attire for Auditions
Females:  black leotards, convertible pink or skin-colored tights, and ballet shoes. For the modern class, applicants must be barefoot (rolled up convertible tights).
Males:  black t-shirts, dance belts, black convertible tights with black shoes or with white socks and white shoes. For the modern class, applicants must be barefoot (rolled up convertible tights).

Music for Auditions
Please arrive early to best prepare for your audition. If you are applying to the Residential High School, you must bring a recording of the music for your solo. The recording can be in CD format, on an iPhone, or other digital formats. 

Audition Day
Please arrive early to best prepare for your audition. If you are applying to the Residential High School, you must bring a recording of the music for your solo. 
On audition day, enter through the front of the venue. Appropriate signage will direct you to check-in.  
Check-in and registration will begin 30-minutes prior to the audition time.  You must check-in to receive your specific audition number.

Columbia, SC is at the intersection of Interstates 26, 20, and 77.
The building is located between Wheat Street and Whaley Street.
On the campus map, it is listed as the Band and Dance facility.

Parking
Metered parking spaces are located on the streets listed below. Please read the instructions on the meters to know whether to include payment:
Sumter Street (the same block as the dance building)
Catawba Street (the cross street of the dance building)
Main Street (one block parallel to the dance building)

NOTE:
Guest parking is not available in the lots near the building. The two lots in front of and at the rear of the dance building require USC parking passes, and USC patrols parking lots 24/7.

Cancellations
If an emergency arises and you cannot attend your audition, contact
Mary Evington as soon as possible at 864.270.5339 or
maryevington@scgsah.org. Indicate the student’s name and the type of
emergency in your message. We will get back with you the next business
day.

NOTE: Auditions will only be rescheduled in cases of emergency.
