Dr. Gary Malvern
Gary Malvern is Professor of Music at Furman University. He holds a Baccalaureate degree from Oberlin College and the Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from Yale University. Dr. Malvern has served as principal trumpet of the Colorado Philharmonic and the American Wind Symphony Orchestra. As a teacher, Dr. Malvern has been the artist-in-residence at the Conservatorium in Perth, Australia, and has held similar posts at conservatories throughout Northern Italy. As a conductor, Dr. Malvern has studied with Otto-Werner Mueller and has served as conducting assistant with the National Repertory Orchestra. Dr. Malvern has been Principal and Co-principal trumpet with the Greenville Symphony Orchestra since 1983 and is active as a performer throughout the region.
