About the Library

Students in library

Welcome to the John I. Smith Charities Library

When our students, faculty, and staff visit the  John I. Smith Charities Library they know that they are entering the hub of our campus.  The library isn't just about an impressive collection of over 30,000 physical items – books, CDs, DVDs, and scores – or collegiate-level access to curriculum-based electronic services available anywhere, anytime. Our library is a vibrant space where our students learn, grow, and collaborate.

We support the academic and artistic achievements of our students by preparing them with the skills needed to become dynamic researchers. In addition to the electronic services provided by the state to all schools, the library also provides additional history archives, art collections of private, museum, and university holdings from around the world, audio-streaming of classical and jazz recordings, sheet music and musical score downloads, and other listening collections (such as folk music, ethnic music, and modern derivations from the popular and classical canon). The music collections are part of major repositories such as the Smithsonian Institution and the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts. In addition, the library has a 19-station computer lab, photocopy and printing services, a recently opened library makerspace called The L.A.B., and a dedicated library team.

The John I. Smith Charities Library encourages use of all Library services in South Carolina. Annually, the library provides assistance to students getting library cards at the Greenville County Library System. Our librarians also teach students how to explore and examine the holdings and cooperative services of the university and college libraries in our state and nation.
