Artistic Process: Creating – I can conceive and develop new artistic ideas and work.
Anchor Standard 1: I can create scenes and write scripts using story elements and structure.
Benchmark: T.CR.IH.1 – I can write short scenes and monologues using basic dramatic structure.
Indicators:T.CR.IH.1.1 – I can write a short scene or monologue using proper script format.
T.CR.IH.1.3 – I can collaborate with actors to bring my short scene or monologue to life.
Artistic Process: Performing – I can perform new artistic ideas and work from a variety of materials, techniques, and processes
Anchor Standard 3: I can act in improvised scenes and written scripts.
Benchmark: T.P.IL.3 – I can experiment with physical and vocal characterization choices in a simple theatrical work.
Indicator: T.P.IL.3.1 – I can portray a character within the context of a story using my body (i.e., pantomime) and voice (i.e., projection, tone, diction, rate, pitch).

About the Project Creators

Katie Mixon

Spark Curriculum Specialist and Actor-Teacher

Katie Mixon is an actor, theatre educator, and curious traveler. She serves as a Company Member and Educator with the South Carolina Shakespeare Company, an Actor/Manager for Elsewhere Shakespeare in Virginia, and was part of the founding conservation team at Sappraiwan Elephant Sanctuary in Thailand. Katie hosted and produced Riverbanks Roundup, an animal education series at Riverbanks Zoo, and co-hosted and produced Expeditions for SCETV. A graduate of the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in Classical Theatre, she also holds a BA from the University of South Carolina. As a teacher and conservation advocate, Katie has worked in Australia, Thailand, Southeast Asia, and Central America. She is a big fan of Asian elephants, her dog Nigel, and collaborating with students and friends to create theatre.
