The South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities is proud to present the 26th graduating class who will be honored during a commencement ceremony on Friday, May 22, at Furman University’s McAlister Auditorium.

The 116 students of the Governor’s School’s Class of 2026 represent 28 counties in South Carolina. This class has earned the following honors:

  • 128 awards were earned in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards Region-at-Large competition
  • 35 seniors are National Honor Society members
  • 22 seniors were named Palmetto Fellows
  • 11 seniors had works accepted into Artfields, Jr.
  • 9 seniors were honored in the SC New Play Festival, including one finalist and eight semi-finalists
  • 8 seniors qualified regionally in the SC National Association of Teachers of Singing competition
  • 7 seniors were inducted into the National Honor Society for Dance Arts
  • 7 films created by seniors received honors or were official selections in the Reedy Reels Film Festival, Tryon International Film Festival, Furman Film Festival and the SC Young Filmmakers Project.
  • 4 seniors received medals in the National Scholastic Art & Writing Awards
  • 3 seniors were named YoungArts winners


The Governor’s School’s public, residential high school program provides pre-professional training in the arts as well as a nationally recognized academic education. Artistically talented students from across the state are selected through an application and audition process and attend during their sophomore, junior and senior years, depending on their selected art area. As a public school, tuition is free for those who are accepted. Financial assistance is available for other fees through the Governor’s School Foundation.
