Six SC Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities Students Recognized in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program
The South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities is proud to announce that Nathaniel Greenberg, of Hilton Head, and Indigo Nath, of Anderson, have been named Semifinalists in the 70th Annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These outstanding students are among more than 16,000 Semifinalists nationwide who now have the opportunity to compete for 6,870 National Merit Scholarships worth a total of $26 million, to be awarded in spring 2025.
To qualify as Semifinalists, students achieved top scores on the 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). To advance to the Finalist stage, they must meet additional academic requirements. About 95% of Semifinalists are expected to be named Finalists, with roughly half of all Finalists earning the distinguished National Merit Scholar title.
In addition, Governor’s School students Tatiana Fasnacht, Isabel Garcia, Sophia Myers, and Mya Sinclair have been recognized as Commended Students in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program. These students placed among the top 50,000 scorers nationwide out of the 1.3 million students who entered the competition.
While Commended Students do not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, they have been honored for their exceptional academic promise. A spokesperson for the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) noted, “These students represent a valuable national resource. Recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”
The Governor’s School congratulates all of these outstanding students on their remarkable achievements and wishes Nathaniel Greenberg and Indigo Nath success as they advance in the National Merit Scholarship competition.
