Connecting Lines: Dance Across the Arts

The Governor's School's Presidential Guest Artist Series presents two internationally-renowned artists each year to educate and inspire students and the community through master classes, group discussion, free public performances and more. The 2018-2019 series, generously sponsored by The Graham Foundation, features two dance-world icons—Alonzo King and Garth Fagan.

LINES Ballet founder Alonzo King has been called a visionary choreographer who is altering the way we look at ballet and was described by the New York Times as having “astonishing originality.” King’s ground-breaking work has been featured in prominent ballets worldwide and has earned him inclusion on the list of America’s “Irreplaceable Dance Treasures” by the Dance Heritage Coalition in 2015. In this special, multi-media event, King will share details about his company and his body of work. Presidential Guest Artist: Garth Fagan

Well-known for his Tony-winning choreography for Disney's musical The Lion King, Garth Fagan has been called “a true original,” “a genuine leader,” and “one of the great reformers of modern dance.” Fagan is the founder and artistic director of the award-winning and internationally acclaimed Garth Fagan Dance, now celebrating its 48th season. Learn more about Garth Fagan.
