School Counseling FAQS

What does a typical day look like?
Typically, academic classes are in the morning and arts classes are in the afternoon.

How many classes can I take?
You can take a maximum of 5 classes in a year. This will vary for each student. See additional details in the 2025-2026 Course Selection Guide.

What should I expect in terms of workload?
We will help you learn to balance your load. Homework can be done during independent study blocks. Many teachers provide instructional time in class to work on assignments.

What support systems are in place for academics?
Our Academic Assistance Coordinator manages 504/IEP plans and coaches all Govies on time/task management and organization. Every Wednesday, Academic Support Hour allows students to meet and work with academic teachers as needed or required. Peer tutoring is also available as a resource.

What tools does SCGSAH offer to help manage my schedule?
Students receive a school issued iPad with access to Google calendar, Schoology, and the Notability App. Students receive a paper and digital planner at the start of the year. Orientation in August will help students put these tools together for success.

What is unique about SCGSAH academics?
SCGSAH classes are small and interactive. Your talent in the arts is often integrated into instruction and assignments. Students build strong rapport with teachers and peers. SCGSAH is a community-focused learning environment with expertise in graduating successful Govies.
