Rhianna Smith

Rhianna Smith is a professional actor, dancer, and aerialist originally from Johnson City, TN.  She completed the MFA in Physical Theatre with Accademia dell’Arte in Italy, a graduate program affiliated with Mississippi University for Women, and also holds the BA in Theatre Arts from Hollins University.  Her background includes working for children’s theatre touring companies as an actor and educator, devising and directing theatre nationally and internationally, and serving as Artistic Director for an aerial performing arts company.

 

In her creative process and teaching strategies, Rhianna draws from a variety of approaches, including Viewpoints, Alexander Technique, Laban Movement Analysis, Lecoq, Contact Improvisation, Feldenkrais Method, Suzuki, Roy Hart Technique, Circus, Physical Theatre devising techniques, aerial dance, clowning, modern dance, and Pilates.  Rhianna’s professional credits include Tecumseh! Outdoor Drama, National Theatre for Children, Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre, The Public Theatre, Marin Shakespeare Company, and Night Owl Circus Arts.  Her international credits include residencies with FLIC Scuola di Circo in Torino, Familie Floz in Berlin, and Divadlo Continuo in the Czech Republic.  Rhianna enjoys sharing her love of story and theatre with people of all ages.  She believes that cultivating the uniqueness of each individual facilitates learning as part of a group by promoting a high level of respect from teacher to student, student to teacher, and student to student.

 

Rhianna is an avid drinker of fancy tea who loves the ocean so much you just might mistake her for a mermaid.  She is constantly searching for a bookcase similar to the Mary Poppins carpet bag, so that it can hold every book she owns, especially the Discworld series.  Rhianna shares her life with a beautiful little boy who just happens to be a 10-pound Papillon dog named Felix.  Felix has inspired her to join him in playing hall hockey with deer antlers and to develop a repertoire of songs such as Kisses and Nibbles, No Chomps.
