Welcome to the South Carolina Governor’s School for Arts and Humanities.

Cedric%20Adderley.jpgAs the fourth president of this fine institution, it is my privilege to introduce you to the many programs that make up the Governor’s School experience.

As the only state-sponsored school of its kind in the nation offering a residential arts program for high school students, we stand by a long tradition of creativity and scholarship, combining a strong sense of artistic and academic excellence with community, mutual respect, and support.

Through intensive study of our programs in music, visual arts, dance, drama, and creative writing, our students are among the primary beneficiaries of scholarships to the most competitive colleges and universities in the nation.

From performing on Broadway and major network television to winning Tony Awards and international fellowships, our alumni have launched highly successful careers as further proof that the education we deliver is second to none.

Our academic community includes some of the finest teaching scholars in the nation, each of whom are passionate about learning, leading, and engaging students with a keen interest in the arts and humanities. With international reputations in their respective fields, our faculty and staff provide the individualized attention and specialized instruction that allows our students to grow holistically as artists and citizens in a global society.

The exceptional quality of our academic experience and robust campus life has made the Governor’s School one of the most recognized schools in the United States. Our residential program is ranked in the top 1% of high schools nationally by The Washington PostU.S. News and World Report and The Daily Beast.

Students and faculty throughout the state participate in our summer programs and many choose to enroll in our residential school as a result of this unique and transformational experience.

Our outreach and service learning programs touch the lives of students and teachers from almost every county throughout South Carolina, further reinforcing our commitment to being a resource for all students and teachers in the state.

Our beautiful campus is in the heart of downtown Greenville, a thriving arts community with one of the strongest support systems for creative minds in the south. We are proud partners with the city and our presence is known throughout the surrounding area with our many performances and collaborative learning experiences. The enthusiasm and welcoming support of the community makes it possible for students to broaden their academic and social horizons by interacting with people from a diverse set of cultures, allowing for even greater artistic and academic achievement beyond the walls of the Governor’s School. Greenville is also in close proximity to Columbia, Charlotte, Atlanta, and Asheville – great cities that support our efforts in providing unique learning opportunities for our students.

There is so much more to learn about the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities. As you learn more about what makes us like no other school in the nation, I also urge you to visit our beautiful campus and experience what we know to be the Governor's School difference.
