Professional Learning

Arts-Based Professional Learning

The Governor's School understands that arts teachers should have the opportunity to practice their craft, allowing us to provide a teacher-as-artist model for professional learning.

These intensive professional learning experiences provide opportunities designed to support educators in the arts. Offerings focus on our Teacher Retreat program. These free professional learning arts in education intensives allow teachers an opportunity to take a deep dive with our staff or faculty, exploring how the arts can connect in new and vibrant ways to their daily practice. Sessions are free of charge and are hosted throughout the year.

"These methods are so worthwhile for all classrooms across our state and country. They will make students adore learning and teachers enjoy teaching.” - Spark Educator Intensive Participant

As part of the Governor's School mission to be a resource to ALL schools in SC, professional learning opportunities are typically free of charge.

The Governor's School offers the following professional learning and professional leadership as resources to teachers throughout South Carolina:

  • Teachers can travel to our campus and host a professional learning day here in our studios with an SCGSAH faculty or staff member (based on availability). These days are scheduled, upon request, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday mornings.
  • Teachers or administrators can invite our faculty or staff to their schools for district professional learning days.
  • Conference planners can request faculty or staff members for break-out session opportunities, panel discussion, or workshop leadership.
