Film

In the two-year Residential High School Film program, juniors and seniors pursue their love of cinematic storytelling in a highly supportive, highly collaborative, pre-professional environment. Mentored by industry professionals, they will learn the technical and artistic skills required to achieve proficiency in the following:

• Crafting compelling screenplays
• Directing with cinematic vision
• Operating state-of-the-art equipment
• Editing scenes and mixing audio
• Working on set in a variety of film crew roles

The Film curriculum is designed for students to develop the artistic, creative, and intellectual competencies required to move successfully into a postsecondary program. The two-year sequential curriculum starts at a foundational level and builds into advanced film production.

• Screen Films Publicly: Students present their original short films during two-to-four on-campus screenings that are open to the public.

• Submit to Film Festivals and Competitions:  Students submit films to regional and national film events such as the Reedy Reels Film Festival, Tryon Film Festival, SC Young Filmmakers, and YoungArts.

• Work with Professional-level Equipment: Students gain hands on experience on the tech and tools the pros use, such as Blackmagic PYXIS 6K cameras, Aputure STORM 1200x lights, DJI Ronin 2 gimbals, just to name a few.

• Collaboration Opportunities: Student filmmakers often work with our student musicians, actors and visual artists to see their stories come alive on-screen.
