A Living and Learning Community

At the Governor's School, students live on campus for the nine-month school year allowing them to truly immerse themselves in their art discipline and their studies in a safe and structured environment.

The Govie community is supportive and collaborative, and students learn from, and make connections with, caring faculty and staff, as well as their peers. While students have very busy schedules and challenging workloads, the Governor’s School provides support services to assist students with life skills, nutrition, academics, and other needs while they’re away from home.

Our Campus

Our 8.5-acre campus overlooks Reedy River Falls Park in the cultural hub of downtown Greenville. Designed to emulate a Tuscan village, the campus community includes a residence hall, state-of-the-art performance hall, black box theatre, contemporary library, classrooms, studios, laboratories, practice rooms, fitness center, and an art gallery, all surrounded by gardens, sculpture and open courtyards.

Residential Life

The Residential Life program is designed to provide a rich living and learning community environment conducive to personal, social, artistic and intellectual growth. This program supports the mission of the school by seeking to provide students with the support and structure needed to maximize development in all areas.

Residential Life Coordinators

Residential Life Coordinators (RLCs) are full-time professional staff who live in the residence hall. They are responsible for many duties ranging from checking students in at curfew to driving them to appointments to collaborating with faculty to ensure students are working to their full potential. RLCs also plan recreational and educational activities for students both on and off campus.

Roommates

Roommates are paired using a questionnaire identifying similar living habits. This process also seeks to match students with peers from other art areas and regions of the state. Every effort is made to house sophomores in roommate pairings. Students wishing to make specific roommate requests may do so. Residential life staff consider all requests carefully, but reserve the right to make final selections.
