At the Governor's School, young artists have everything they need to pursue their artistic passions.

The South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities offers young artists a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to receive pre-professional arts training along with a nationally-recognized high school education.

Creative Writing | Dance | Drama | Film | Music | Visual Arts

The Residential High School program serves juniors and seniors, as well as exceptional sophomores in Music and Dance. Students live on campus in a safe and structured environment which allows them to truly become immersed in their art discipline and their studies.

All students choose one art area and explore various mediums or disciplines within that area with the guidance of teaching artists. School days are divided with academic classes in the morning and art studies in the afternoon.

What makes the Governor’s School unique?

Our Community

The Govie community is supportive and collaborative, and students learn from, and make connections with, caring faculty and staff, as well as their peers. Here it is cool to care, safe to voice opinions, and okay to be yourself.

Our Faculty

Our arts faculty are all established, practicing artists who bring their professional experiences to the classroom and serve as mentors to our emerging artists. Our academic faculty have experience working in higher education and from outstanding high schools and design curriculum for the creative mind.

Our Guest Artists

Our students also have the added benefit of learning from and working with world-renowned guest artists who enhance and expand on their arts curriculum.

Our Student Support Services

While students have very busy schedules and challenging workloads, the Governor’s School provides support services to assist students with life skills, nutrition, academics, and other needs while they’re away from home.
