Summer Program Positions

SUMMER - ALUMNI OFFICE PROGRAM ASSISTANT

OPENING DATE:  March 20, 2023                   CLOSING DATE:  Continuous

STATE POSITION NUMBER:  Temporary- Part Time    

SALARY: $1,600.00                                            BAND and LEVEL:  00

WORK SCHEDULE: Temporary Part-Time, approximately 30 hours per week (additional hours may be required, including some nights and weekends).  

PROGRAM: Odyssey (Week 1: June 18, 2023 – June 23, 2023 and Week 2: June 25, 2023 – June 30, 2023); Academy (July 9, 2023 – July 22, 2023)

LOCATION: South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities, Greenville, South Carolina 

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
A minimum of one full year of college, university, or conservatory is required.  A valid driver’s license is required. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  
Experience with students in a camp or residential environment is preferred.  Preference may be given to applicants who are 21 years of age and with additional educational or work experience. 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:    
Must have demonstrated knowledge and interpersonal skills to work with artistically talented students, other arts educators and diverse constituencies and cultures. Must be available to work the duration of the Arts Odyssey, Academy and Summer Dance programs. Must be willing to participate in first aid and driver’s training.

SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES:  
The role of the summer programs assistant is to provide daily administrative and office support to the Alumni and Summer Programs Office.  This position reports to the Alumni and Summer Programs Coordinator but interacts with a wide range of staff, faculty, students, alumni and campus leaders. The ability to work on multiple projects while on a fast paced schedule is essential. 
 
Duties will include but are not limited to the following:
•    Receiving and directing visitors on the following dates (June 18, June 25, July 9, July 22)
•    Taking candid photos of students for publication on website
•    Program certificate preparation
•    Serving as a chaperone for off campus trips
•    Assisting with communications to parents
•    Fielding telephone calls
•    Social media postings
•    Special alumni projects 

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
The Summer programs assistant may request housing in the residence hall if space is available.  Staff who live in the residence hall will be eligible for a meal plan to cover all meals while programs are in session.  If the assistant chooses not to stay on campus, a meal plan will not be part of their compensation.

SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES:  
The Visual Arts Program Assistant assists with the daily activities of the Visual Arts Department under the general supervision of the Visual Arts Department Chair during the Summer Odyssey and Academy Program. The Odyssey Program consists of (two) one-week programs for rising 8th and 9th graders and the Academy Program consists of (one) two-week program for rising 10th grade students. Some of the duties will include preparing materials for classes, assisting in the studios as needed, assisting with communication between visual arts teachers, helping supervise students on field trips and special events, helping with administrative duties, and helping with the gallery installation for the Academy student exhibition as well as other duties as assigned.  The Program Assistant will need to be available on the Friday before the start of the program for a full day of training as well as some or all of the weekends immediately before, during, and after the programs to assist in program opening and closing events, weekend arts activities, and to help with program preparations. Performs other duties as assigned.

SALARY: $2,400.00 Per Program                    BAND and LEVEL:  UB03

A Bachelor’s Degree in the appropriate arts discipline and at least 3 years teaching experience at the secondary school level

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  
An MFA in the discipline of instruction and engagement in professional activities at a national level.

SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES:  
Summer Visual Arts Instructors teach daily in the Visual Arts Department under the general supervision of the Visual Arts Department Chair during the Summer Odyssey and/or Academy Program. The Odyssey Program consists of (two) one-week programs for rising 8th and 9th graders and the Academy Program consists of (one) two-week program for rising 10th grade students. All students during the visual arts summer programs will create work in Drawing, a 2D media and 3D media. Although it may not be the case in each class, across the entire program students will have an introduction to traditional techniques and new technology. Students will also be introduced to using visual language, research, and the context of art and design. Disciplines of potential studio instruction include: Drawing, Printmaking, Photography, Graphic Design, Painting, Sequential Arts, Animation, Ceramics, Metals, Sculpture, and Architecture. Instructors will develop and deliver curriculum, maintain appropriate classrooms / studio(s) during the program, and assist in sourcing and ordering supplies as needed through the Summer Department Chair.  Additional duties include: assisting in the assessment of students, occasionally supervising students in evening open studio time, and other duties as requested by the Summer Chair. Instructors will need to be available on some or all of the weekends immediately before, during, and after the program to assist in the program opening and closing events, weekend arts activities, and to prepare the art studios. Please indicate a specific visual arts discipline of instruction in a letter of interest.  Applicants that are contacted for an interview will also be asked to provide examples of their professional work and examples of student work.
