The admissions application process may take a few days or a few weeks to complete and includes the following steps:

Step 1: Set up an application portal account. This account is the go-to place for completing the application process. All of the required steps and actions will be provided within this portal. 

Step 2: Complete the application form which will ask for basic information about the applicant.

Step 3: Within the portal, the applicant will receive an application checklist with items that have to be completed and/or submitted to finish the application. Checklists vary by program and grade level and include items such as:  

• Letters of Recommendation
• An arts experience questionnaire
• Artistic submissions
• Grades, attendance, transcript (Residential High School applicants only)

Step 4: (Only required for some programs) After completing the checklist, the admissions process will be completed for many students. However, some applicants may be invited to participate in a virtual or in-person audition. Auditions are required for students applying to the following programs:

• Residential High School
• Summer Dance Ballet Intensive
• Summer Dance Modern Intensive
• 9th Grade Drama Summer Program
• 9th Grade Visual Arts Summer Program

• Start early! Give yourself plenty of time to complete the application so you're not rushed before the priority deadline.
• If you get stuck during any part of this process, contact the Admissions Office for assistance.
• Carefully read and follow all directions while completing the application.
• Join us for student performances and admissions events to learn more about our community and see the arts in action!
• Ensure the Governor's School is a good fit for you! Many applicants focus solely on acceptance without considering if this is truly where they want to be.
• Don’t aim for perfection in your artistic practice; be open to feedback and critique. We’re not looking for students who have it all figured out, but those who are eager to learn, resilient, and excited to grow!
