Session Description

Participants will experience a creative nonfiction writing workshop to build their own skills in this genre. They will develop skills in using specific, sensory language, showing versus telling, and crafting narratives. They will then discuss and develop ways to implement these skills across their curricula. 

Who

This session is designed for 4th-12th grade teachers.

When

June 17, 2021, 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

June 18, 2021, 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Where

This free retreat will be offered online via Zoom. Participants will need internet access and a microphone and camera.

About Heather Marshall, Guest Clinician

Heather Marshall is an author; a high-school English, yoga, and mindfulness teacher; and a former director of arts education. Her short stories and essays are published in a variety of literary journals and anthologies in the US and in the UK. Her novel, The Thorn Tree, was released in 2014. She has recently completed a second novel When the Ocean Flies. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Queens University of Charlotte.
