For passionate dancers who love exploring, improvising and taking risks with movement, the Modern and Contemporary Dance track provides pre-professional training for careers in dance and choreography. Students learn a wide range of dance forms with a modern focus under the guidance of nationally recognized dance instructors and guest artists. They also have the opportunity to share their developing skills during several public performances each year, which includes a Student Choreography Showcase.

The Modern and Contemporary Dance track is designed for students who have an intermediate-level of ballet experience, as a general foundation for dance, but prefer to pursue a modern career path. Students who are open minded, self-disciplined, and artistic critical thinkers eager to try new things are most likely to succeed in this program. Attending the Governor’s School’s 5-week Summer Dance Program is highly recommended, but not required, in preparation for this program.
