New Employees Join The Governor's School Community

The Governor's School welcomes the following new faculty and staff members to our community!

Guidance

Deborah Ware - Director of Guidance
Deborah Ware is from Charleston, SC. She has 17 years of experience as a school counselor and was most recently the Director of Guidance at the Academic Magnet High School. Ware has a background in the arts with a minor in Design from NC State University. She is also a Govie parent and hopes that this experience along with her passion for the arts will make this transition seamless.

Faculty

Landon Baumgard - Music Faculty 
Landon Baumgard is a vocal coach and collaborative pianist hailing from the Los Angeles area.  He has collaborated with all the preeminent Los Angeles musical organizations, including LA Opera, the LA Phil, and the LA Master Chorale.  Baumgard holds degrees from California State University, Northridge (BM), Indiana University, Bloomington (MM), and University of Michigan (DMA), where he studied vocal coaching in depth with Martin Katz. Baumgard's prior teaching positions were at Pepperdine University, California State University, Northridge, and the Faber Piano Institute in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Rose Jenkins - Math Faculty
Rose Jenkins comes to the Governor's School from Midlands Technical College where she has taught mathematics for 22 years. She is an alumna of Spelman College where she earned a B.S. degree in mathematics. Jenkins also holds masters degrees in Mathematical Sciences from Clemson University and in Educational Technology from the University of South Carolina. Jenkins is the mother of Michaela Jenkins, a rising senior at Kenyon College and a 2015 graduate of the Governor's School.

Residential Life

Thomasina Gary - Residential Life Coordinator
Thomasina Gary is a native of Greenville, SC. She received both her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Criminal Justice from Charleston Southern University. She is also an AmeriCorp VISTA alum. During Gary's time as a VISTA, she spent two years developing and overseeing the Greenville Technical College Financial Education Center. Her hobbies include listening to music, reading and baking.

Ezrenee Major - Residential Life Coordinator
Ezrenee Major is a recent graduate of the University of South Carolina where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with a minor in Social Work. She is a lover of animals, exploring, and good conversation. Her favorite quote is “be the change you wish to see in the world.”

Admissions

Megan Baxter - Field Liaison, Creative Writing & Drama
Megan Baxter is an established writer whose award-winning work has been included in numerous publications. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Poetry at Goddard College, and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Non-Fiction from Vermont College of Fine Arts. Baxter also attended Interlochen Arts Academy, an arts boarding school in Michigan, where she concentrated in creative writing.

Chad Boltz - Field Liaison, Music
Chad Boltz is a vocal Govie alumnus from the Class of 2014. He graduated from Furman University in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies and a minor in Latin American Studies. At Furman, Boltz served as a student ambassador and developed digital content for the admissions department. He has also been handling public relations for Table 301 in Greenville.

Megan Hueble - Field Liaison, Visual Arts
Megan Hueble is a visual artist who received her Bachelor in Fine Arts with a concentration in Drawing from Clemson University. She is a Brandon Fellow at the Greenville Center for Creative Arts and works part-time at the Children's Museum of the Upstate. 

Adair Kempf  - Field Liaison, Dance
Adair Kempf, of Greenville, is a 2003 graduate of the Governor's School's Dance Department. She graduated from Butler University with a Bachelor in Fine Art in Dance Performance. Following college, Kempf danced professionally with Charleston Ballet Theatre and Carolina Ballet Theatre. She was also a full time ballet teacher for DanceArts Greenville (formerly School of Carolina Ballet), and became associate artistic director of both school and company in 2016.

Public Safety

Steven Kay - Security Officer
Steven Kay is a graduate of Anderson College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice.  He worked for three years at a camp for troubled teens and most recently was with the Department of Social Services as the lead investigator for child fatalities.

Visual Arts

Caroline Wright - Visual Arts Assistant
Caroline Wright is local to Greenville and attended Anderson University where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree with a concentration in Painting and Drawing, and a minor in Art History.
